Speaker Bio

Dr. Sathya Jeganathan is presently the Principle at the Health and Family Welfare Training Institute, Gandhigram Institute of Rural Health India. She did her MD (Paediatrics) at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children. Madras, India in 1992 and then went on to do her MPH at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene & Public Health, Baltimore, U.S.A in 1998. During her pediatric training, she received the “Best outgoing Student of the Year 1992” at Institute of Child Health & Hospital for Children. She has received international recognition by winning the Carl Taylor Award (From Department of International Health. John Hopkins University, USA) in 1998, and the “Best Oral presentation award” at the International Conference of Perinatal medicine in Barcelona, Spain 2001. In India, she has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the  Dr.MGR Medical University Tamilnadu in 2011 and the Best Doctor Award by the Government of Tamilnadu in 2013. Her research interests include Low-cost interventions to reduce neonatal mortality in rural areas. She is also involved in the Pilot Project for Home-Based Newborn Care in Kanchipuram District
